London doesn’t make the top 11 in a ranking of the friendliest cities in Britain by personal finance firm Provident Personal Credit.The firm asked thousands of people in cities across the UK to rate the friendliness of their hometown as part of its “Unbroken Britain” survey. Questions included: How polite are people in your city? How safe do you think your city is? How welcoming is your city?
The responses were tallied, and each city was given a score out of 10, with one being the worst possible score.

11. Worcester — 6.98. The index recorded a slight drop in friendliness against the last index in September 2016, but the West Midlands city still scores above the national average.
10. Cardiff — 6.99. Residents of the Welsh capital scored their city highly for friendliness, although two other Welsh cities come ahead in the index.
9. Edinburgh — 7.03. Every area on the index has seen an uptick in the Scottish capital since September 2016, with friendliness seeing a big increase.
8. Birmingham — 7.04. Friendliness and safety have seen the biggest improvement in the Midlands city, while overall happiness has also generally increased.

7. Southampton — 7.04. Friendliness, politeness and safety have seen big improvements in Southampton, located on the south coast of England. The city is above average in every category on the index.

6. Wrexham — 7.12. Wrexham’s overall score has dropped from 7.79 in the September 2016 survey, but it remains high on the friendliness index.

5. Aberystwyth — 7.14. The Welsh city scores highly across the index, although its overall score has dropped from 8.43 in September 2016.
4. Aberdeen — 7.16. Aberdeen rates highly as a friendly, welcoming, and safe city on the index. As well as friendliness scoring highly, perceptions of politeness have increased the most significantly over the past six months.
3. Swansea — 7.31. Friendliness, along with almost all other stats, increased in the Welsh city compared to last year’s survey, with area upkeep and trust experiencing the biggest surge.

2. Gloucester — 7.32. Things are on the up for the city of Gloucester in the south-west of England. Friendliness, along with every other measure, has seen improvement since the last survey.

1. York — 7.47. While York’s ratings were already high, most measures increased compared to last year’s index, with friendliness increasing particularly.
