The French telecom group Orange, currently in negotiations with the Indian telecom group Bharit Airtel for the acquisition of its subsidiaries in Burkina Faso, Congo, Chad (pictured), and Sierra Leone, would like the sale operation to be concluded by 4th quarter 2015.
The information was disclosed by the spokesperson of Orange, indicated the news website Mobile World Live. According to the source of Mobile World Live, Burkina Faso, Congo, Chad and Sierra Leone “will seamlessly make complete the presence of Orange in this region, and we believe this could result in a lot of synergy (…) This buying proposal is perfectly in line with the Orange strategy to continue growing in Africa and we believe the acquisition of these four operators represents a real asset for Orange.”
Orange currently operates in ten countries in Western Africa and has no direct presence in the four markets where Airtel wants to sell its operations. The four subsidiaries of Airtel, leader or holding the second position in their respective markets, represent nine million consumers and an added profit of €600 million per year.
