Saif Al Islam Gaddafi, the son of the former leader of the country is planning to participate in the presidential election scheduled for March 2018.
The announcement was made by the spokesman of the Gaddafi family, Basem Al Hashimi, the 17 last December.
According to the Egypt Today news website, Mr Hashimi also said that Saif Al Islam Gaddafi has completed his electoral program and will make it public soon.
“His program includes some measures that the UN, as Saif al-Islam hopes, could adopt to help Libya transition from the transition period to stability,” he said.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that Saif al-Islam’s candidacy for the presidential election in Libya has been mentioned.
In an interview with the Russian news agency Sputnik on October 18 2017 Khaled al-Zaid, the lawyer of the second son of the former Libyan president, said that Saif Al Islam Gaddafi was preparing to return to politics in his country.
Recall that Saif Al Islam Khadafi is still under arrest warrant issued against him in 2011 by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Libya is also experiencing a difficult security and political situation since the intervention of NATO forces in 2011. Although recognized by the international community, the national unity government of Tripoli can not establish its authority over the whole country.
