Positions: Full-Time Faculty positions in Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics,

and Mechanical Engineering Technology

Reporting Line: Associate Dean of STEM

IUGB Profile

The International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB) is an independent institution, established as a private-public partnership, offering an American-style curriculumin English. IUGB opened in 2005 and was formally accredited as a University in Côte d’Ivoire, by the promulgation of Decree n° 2007-477 on 16 May 2007. IUGB offers Bachelor degree programs in the School of Business and Social Sciences and in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, andMathematics. In addition, students have the option to carry out study abroad programs. Our Undergraduate Preparatory Program trains students for university-level work through courses in English, technology and mathematics.

Location and Languages

IUGB is located in Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire, a coastal city about 20 miles east of the economic capital, Abidjan. While all instruction and University management are conducted in English, IUGB is located in a French-speaking country.

Position Description

The faculty will be expected to teach courses in the appointed subject area, engage in applied research and render services as required by IUGB administration. Materials and course development as well as providing learning support to students are integral responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in the STEM programs (normally eight (8) course load per academic year with research expectations or ten (10) course load if teaching track with no research expectations;
• Stay current in their field and conduct applied research (does not apply for teaching track) and get involved in community project relevant to their subject matter;
• Act as faculty advisor to students in their major;
• Contribute to the development of new or existing programs through materials and curriculum development, peer observations, and contributions to teaching workshops;
• Provide additional tutoring to students through the science lab, student clubs, and other programs;
• Attend faculty meetings;
• Choose appropriate textbooks and other teaching materials, design lesson plans, and deliver course contents to students;
• Assess and grade students’ work and examinations, and provide constructive feedback to students;
• Seek to improve teaching performance by continuously being up-to-date with current advances in pedagogy, and obtain and analyze feedback from students, peers, and the Associate Dean.
• Collaborate with support staff and academic colleagues to ensure student needs and expectations are met;
• Collaborate with academic colleagues on course development as well as curriculum development or changes.

Additional responsibilities

These may include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching courses for the Center for Continuing Education or courses in the University core;
• Assisting with the student admissions and placement processes;
• Participation in a limited number of student recruitment events.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or Ph.D. in the discipline or related field, or equivalent, preferably earned from an institution in an English-speaking country.
• Native-like fluency in English.
• Familiarity with the US-style of higher education.

Experience:

• Essential: At least three years teaching experience at university level.
• Highly recommended: International teaching experience and/or study or extended stay in an
• English- speaking country.
• Desirable: Practical Experience in Business or industry. Interest in STEM education in Africa.
