Mrs. Stella Agbabiaka, the owner of God’s Will Rentals and Miss Oketunde Sandra, a makeup artist on Wednesday gave INDEPENDENT some tips about their success, the good and the bad sides of being an entrepreneur, what inspired and motivated them to become business women.
In this encounter with Agbabiaka, she said: “It never cease to amaze me how much time people waste searching endlessly for magic shortcuts to entrepreneurial success and fulfillment when the only real path is staring at them right in the face.
“Real entrepreneurs, who start real businesses that employ real people provide real products and services to real customers, added that, besides, look on the bright side; you get to do what you want and you get to do it your way. There is just one catch.
You have to start somewhere. Ideas and opportunities do not just materialise out of thin air”. When asked what really inspired her to venture into the business, she said: “I went to a party at Ikotun in Lagos and there were no chairs to sit on, I was so furious and disappointed at them.
I stood for close to 15 minutes before they could get chairs for me and my friends; this made me start up my own rental service. I thought of many events that there won’t be adequate chairs and other equipment (canopies, tables, table cloths etc) to use, and I had the opportunity to start up the business. So I took it that was what inspired me”.
She told INDEPENDENT that she has been also facing a lot of challenges, in terms of looking for contracts, trying to convince customers, looking for honest workers and responsible drivers, and making sure her money is complete, “it is quite challenging,” she added. For Miss Sandra Oketunde, a 23-year-old political science graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), being a makeup artist is a dream come true.
According to her, “becoming makeup artist has always been my passion; I love making people faces up and it really paid off for as a business. After graduation, I decided to get my own shop and stock it up with makeup items; I had no idea on how to start up a business. The only way I knew to get started was by learning a marketable skill and getting to work. In my experience, that’s where the ideas, opportunities, partners, and finances always seem to come from.
Sure, it also takes enormous amount of hard work, but that just comes with the territory and it really helped me a lot, my business is doing great and I can fend for myself ”. She, however, advised the youths to go for what they want, saying that they should never give up on their dreams no matter how challenging the situation is.
