The Finnish energy company Wartsila will deliver a turnkey power plant for the subsidiary Tasiast gold mine in Mauritania. Objective, provide the electricity needed to expand the second phase of the mining company established on Mauritanian soil (Tasiast).
The announcement was made Friday 22 December 2017 by the group Wartsila without giving more details, especially on the overall cost of the new plant. Thedelivery date was not specified, Kinross, however, said in a statement that the second phase of production of the plant is expected to start in the third quarter 2020.
The expansion of the Tasiast gold mine will require an investment of 590 million dollars and is a strategic option for the Mauritanian state.
To emphasize that Wartsila, who salutes its old partnership of 7 years with the Mauritanian government, has also delivered the power generation engines of the 19 MW power station serving the 1B phase project of the Tasisat mine.
This central remains the biggest project of this type in West Africa.
